
CITB SMSTS 5 Day Course (Remote Learning)
Description
This interactive instructor-led training course is delivered live via video conferencing, allowing participants to join from any location with internet access, perfect for those who cannot attend a training centre, or prefer to learn from home.
Attendance
Full attendance of the course is mandatory to achieve a pass. Should your internet connection fail during the course for a prolonged period of time, or repeatedly, you may not be able to re-join as requested by the trainer, unless it can be re-established within 5 minutes. This is so general learning is not disturbed for other participants.
Please ensure that prior to the course you have:
- A computer or laptop (absolutely no iPads, tablets or mobile phones can be used)
- Have internet connection
- Webcam and speaker that are fully working
- Access to Microsoft Word
- Capability to send and receive files and space to store them if required
- Downloaded Zoom
It is a requirement of the awarding body CITB that delegates must have some form of photographic ID on the day of the course. Where identification is not provided, attendance will be refused.
Minimum System Requirements for Remote Delivery
The minimum system requirements are as follows:
- Operating system: Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10 (not Windows RT or S)
- Processor: Pentium (2009) / Core i3 2 GHz or equivalent
- Memory: 2 GB Disk space: At least 10 GB free recommended
- Screen resolution: 1024 x 768 or greater
- Graphics: Any Direct3D 9 compatible, 128 MB
- Internet: Broadband internet connection required for installation, updates, web media and links.
- Other: Microsoft Internet Explorer 11. Adobe Reader and Microsoft PowerPoint are required to view some content.
The subscription content can be viewed online in a web browser or in a dedicated viewer app for one of the following platforms:

The day before your course is due to commence, you will receive an email from our training team containing a link and voucher code to download your copy of the supporting publications for the course - Construction Site Safety - The comprehensive guide (GE700) and Construction site management delegate workbook (XA6). (Please double check your spam or junk folder).

Who should attend?
The Site management safety training scheme (SMSTS) is a five-day course designed those who are considering, or already have, responsibilities for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering groups of staff e.g. as a site manager.
Pre-Requisites: Delegates are required to have a good understanding of spoken and written English.
Overview
The SMSTS course covers all relevant legislation affecting safe working in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture within the workforce.
At the end of the course you will be able to:
- Implement all health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation affecting your daily work.
- Implement new guidance and industry best practice.
- State your duties and responsibilities with regards to health, safety, welfare and the environment.
Certification
On successful completion of the end of course examination delegates will receive a CITB SMSTS certificate which is valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, delegates will need to take the CITB SMSTS Refresher course before the expiry date on the certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.
