INTRODUCTION
This nationally recognised construction qualification is designed for groundworkers engaged in construction and civil engineering activities, such as preparing sites and laying the groundwork for structures.
Applicants should currently be employed in a role that involves civil engineering tasks, with regular access to real work activities, tools, and equipment used in construction and engineering operations. They must also be able to demonstrate their competence on-site through both practical performance and theoretical knowledge.
To enrol, candidates must have at least six months of on-site experience performing construction and civil engineering duties.
Upon successful completion of the SCQF Level 5 Construction and Civil Engineering Operations, candidates are eligible to apply for the CSCS Blue Skilled Worker card, provided they also hold a valid (in-date) CITB Health, Safety and Environment (CSCS touchscreen) test.
This qualification supports career progression into advanced roles within construction and civil engineering operations and can be a stepping stone towards supervisory or managerial positions in the construction industry.
You will have your own dedicated assessor, who will support and assist you throughout your qualification. Our Assessors are fully committed to helping you at every stage of your qualification. Your assessor will give guidance, whilst you build your own portfolio of evidence and knowledge tasks, while carrying out your day-to-day work activities.
Tala Training use an excellent e-portfolio platform, which allows you to access and update your portfolio at a time and place that suits you. The e-portfolio allows you to easily track your progress and engage with your Assessor.
With S/NVQ's, they can be completed at a pace that suits you. Completion is dependant on the commitment and motivation of the candidate. You can complete the qualification in as little as 2-3 months, although we will provide you with full support for up to 12 months.

CITB AND APPRENTICESHIP FUNDING
CITB Grant Funding for Scottish Apprenticeships
If you're a CITB-registered employer in Scotland, you may be eligible to claim CITB grant funding when your apprentice is enrolled as a Modern Apprentice.
Eligible employers can receive:
- Attendance Grant – £2,500 per year, paid every 13 weeks while your apprentice is actively completing their apprenticeship (up to the maximum duration of the programme).
- Achievement Grant – £3,500 on successful completion of an apprenticeship lasting 12 months or more.
- Experienced Worker Achievement Grant – £600 for eligible apprenticeships lasting less than 12 months.
Outside of an apprenticeship, CITB also offer a Short Qualification Grant of £600 to help reduce the cost of upskilling your workforce.
