NPORS Abrasive Wheels - Hand Held Cut off Saw

Overview

This course will give you foundation training and assessment in operating and maintaining Hand Held Cut Off Saws and is suitable if you have received no formal instruction or, if you wish to refresh your skills.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this training course, the learner will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:

• Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
• Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook and be familiar with other sources of information available including relevant legislation
• Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
• Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
• Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
• Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for petrol driven cut off saw
• Select suitable type of abrasive wheel and battery/petrol cut off saw relative to the work being undertaken 
• Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area and set up safety zone
• Prepare the machine for use and operate machinery safely and efficiently
• Environmental considerations
• Storage and transport of abrasive wheel and battery/petrol cut off saw
• Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures.

Assessment

The course is delivered through a combination of practicals and classroom-based tutorials. You will be assessed through theory and practical tests.

If you require your NPORS Operator Card to include the CSCS logo, you must have passed a CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test no more than two years before attending this course.

NPORS Operator Card (on successful completion of the course assessments).
